2026 Annual Appeal

The St. Mary’s County Historical Society is more than a place where old documents are stored. It is an active resource for families to trace their roots, for researchers to find answers, for students to learn, for property owners to explore the history of a house or land, and for anyone who wants to better understand the community we call home.

In a very real sense, we are St. Mary's County’s Memory Bank: the place where records, stories, places, lives, and memories are treasured, preserved, accessed, and made part of our lives.

As the County Memory Bank, our deposit of historical materials is available to answer your questions about family names, old photographs, maps, cemeteries, documents, neighborhoods, and half-remembered stories. We may not have all the answers at our finger-tips, but when it comes to the past, you know that the Historical Society is the right place to start.

It is your support that keeps this Memory Bank active and ready to serve — not just just collecting and preserving documents and records, but making them come alive, available and useful.

Your contribution underwrites the work of caring for collections, assisting with genealogical and historical research, publishing the Chronicles of St. Mary's, securing scholars and presenters for Historically Speaking, maintaining Historic Tudor Hall, and expanding online access to our resources.
